The Paleo Diet

With summer on the brinks, more people are turning to the next hot diet. The Paleo diet claims to be the diet to end all diet plans. It is reported that it is the healthiest way to assume food because it takes genetics in consideration.

The nutrititional plan of the Paleo diet is based on what man assumedly consumed during the Paleolithic era, hence the name. It prides itself on the fact that it is the only nutritional approach that is able to work with the human body. Research and science has shown that a diet which includes trans-fats, sugar, and refined foods, is the main reason for obesity and the dramatic decline in health. In addition, the Paleo diet claims to decrease the risk of an individual developing degenerative diseases such as cancer, heart disease, depression, Parkinson’s disease, infertility, and Alzheimer’s disease.

The healthiest diet choice is one that brings the individual to live a healthier life by making a lifestyle change as opposed to going on a diet for a short period of time. This concept is clear in the Paleo diet because it consists of simply cutting out items such as trans-fat and sugar as well as the combination of simple healthier lifestyle adjustments and exercise. It is because of this fact that the Paleo diet seems to work for many individuals that choose to make this diet a long-term lifestyle change. It is designed for individuals who choose to lose weight through adapting a healthier lifestyle, as opposed to taking part in crash diets.

While on the Paleo diet, individuals are required to refrain from consuming foods such as starches, processed sugars, grains, and dairy. Instead they take in grass-fed pasture raised meats, fish, fruit, vegetables, nuts, and roots. This is where the Paleo diet may not seem to be the right choice for everybody. A successful diet as well as a successful and healthy lifestyle includes the consumption of foods from all parts of the food pyramid. Completely cutting out foods such as dairy, grains, and legumes, does not make for a well-balanced diet. Possible risks with the Paleo diets include not receiving sufficient amounts of calcium that would otherwise come from the regular consumption of dairy products. The Paleo diet benefits from the fact that it was designed to increase a body’s immunity and decrease the risk of autoimmunity.
